Illinois 2026 class is the most loaded class top to bottom with great guards. It’s hard not to leave anyone out. Amir Danforth just happens to be from Rockford, Illinois, an area that receives the least amount of exposure in comparison to Chicago, Peoria, and Southern Illinois, all whom make up for most of the elite prospects throughout the state regardless of class.
Danforth, a 6’1 combo guard can score the ball just as good if not better than any guard in the State. Amir’s ability to shoot the ball is certain. When I say certain I mean when the ball comes off his fingertips you never question the shot. The feeling Stephen Curry gives on a good or bad night. Danforth is averaging 21.4 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal per game.
During the evaluation process, Amir would be ideal for a high-major status program in a mid major conference (American, Atlantic 10, or the WCC). At 6’1 Amir is very tenacious defensively no matter who he is guarding. He picked up 94 feet most of the game when he faced Marquis Clark who is considered by many to be the best guard in Illinois 2026 class. Amir shows no fear, while picking up 94 feet he still remained accountable to himself to be the go to guy offensively. In most cases whenever a player is picking up 94 feet throughout the game that player sacrifices scoring the ball, not Danforth!
Danforth is well conditioned and never seems to grow tired. He must improve on his assist to turnover conversion. When mentioning his assist to turnover conversion what must be understood is that because he is so heavily depended upon to score most times, he can force the issue, and it results into turning over the ball. Most teams tend to send another defender at him whenever he attacks off the dribble. His strengths are his athleticism, perimeter shooting, defensive tenacity and his craftiness finishing at the rim. Amir has had two 40-point games this season, 44 points in a blowout win and 42 points in a 4-point win in Chicago, both performances were record breaking. Danforth plays in class 4A, the toughest class in Illinois. You can watch his 42-point performance on Top Floor Lobby’s YouTube.
