VIDEO: MAKAI KVAMME IS THE ULTIMATE LEADER, MAKING OTHERS BETTER. By: @TopFloorLobby

With no question in mind, Makai Kvamme is the most underappreciated player in the entire State of Illinois. After winning back-to-back State titles in 22-23 (2A) and 23-24 (3A) with DePaul Prep, Kvamme has the chance to set the tone for what can possibly end up being a 3-peat title run this season for the Rams. Leaders lead, that is exactly what you get with Makai. A natural floor general whose primary focus is to keep his team together no matter the atmosphere.

The class of 2025 point guard has emerged to us as the most exciting guard in transition this season. Kvamme’s high flying dunks and great decision-making skills regardless the games tempo is what makes us savor all the great things he has brought to high school basketball this season. Watching Kvamme and Head Coach Tom Kleinschmidt is like watching Fred VanVleet and Ime Udoka coincide. What we mean is the point guard and the coach are just meant for each other. They both understand the game on an entirely different level from everyone else on the floor. They win together and they lose together.

Despite earning Chicago Catholic League First Team honors, Makai Kvamme does not get the credit he truly deserves. Kvamme is averaging over 5 assists per game to combine with 12.5 points per game. Keep in mind, no player on DePaul Prep is averaging over 15 points a night. DePaul plays team basketball. May the Rams capture the 3A title this season, they will return three starters next season and have a chance to 4-peat but let’s not look too far ahead.

The present is thee present.

With the current title at stake, DePaul has been battle-tested this season. Many may fail to mention their Top-35 national win over Vashon St. Louis and also their wins over Mater Dei California, Rich Township and Benet Academy, whom they also lost to in the final week of the season. DePaul Prep has had quite the season. Sometimes you have to lose in order to win. DePaul Prep’s last game may have resulted in a lost to Benet, however that may just set the tone at the right time. Let’s not forget this team had a moment this season where they were playing like a Top-25 team in the nation.
